From -32 degrees in the frozen tundra, what’s good, y’all?
We’ve spent our days in spreadsheets and timelines, balancing interesting cases and hunting down decades-old Satan fearin’ preachers. It’s never a dull day.
This week, MJ took us on another Coca-Cola fuelled adventure with a free OSINT tip that sounds a lot like a Gen X dad—“Just pick up the damn phone!” He’s right, though. You should read and find out how.
What Clare Watched
What keeps Bullshit Hunting and Permanent Record Research running? The support networks and spouses you don’t see. So, this week, we’re listening to one of your key supports—Clare.
Dirty Pop: The Boy Band Scam
A three-part series detailing Lou Pearlman, and the making of many successful boy bands like Backstreet Boys [my absolute fave], N’Sync, O-town, LFO, B4-4. Turns out? Lou had himself a bit of a Ponzi scheme that allowed him to swindle investors and banks out of a cool 500 million dollars.
I felt conflicted watching this series. If it hadn’t been for Lou Pearlman, there would be no BSB, and that would make for a very sad Clare. On the other hand, you have thousands of people affected by this, losing their retirement savings, their livelihood.
And I certainly can’t forget about the artists. Backstreet Boys and N’SYNC were grossly underpaid. It took suing Lou to have their financial freedom, costing a great deal of money, having to payout a sum of 64 million.
I would definitely recommend watching.
Love,
The Bullshit Hunting Crew
